Do you have any idea how many blogs there are out there? With literally thousands on every imaginable topic, probably no one knows. But no matter. The task at hand for you as a business owner is to winnow this massive list to a few relevant, must-read blogs that provide valuable and useful information for running your business. But where to start? We have some favorites, but turned to several expert small business sites for guidance.
One of the best we found is at Small Business Trends. Overit.com Strategy VP, Lisa Barone, stresses the importance of making blog reading part of your everyday routine. It can be tough to fit it in, but small business owners, especially, need to stay current on the business landscape generally, their industries and trends. Religiously reading blogs, she says, also helps keep your creative juices flowing, and comments/guest posts can be important factors in building links and traffic.
To that end, Barone recommends 12 blogs for every small business owner, regardless of the industry. Her list is grouped by general topic areas. Because we’ve also found other great lists to cover, we can only just list Barone’s top 12 here. But be sure to click the link above for the full descriptions.

And Last, but Not Least…
- Google and Your Business (was Google Small Business)
With that great list under our belts, we move on to Online Business – The Ecommerce Authority, which offers “insights for entrepreneurs and online business owners.” The site provides its own list of top 10 must-read business blogs. (We like these, too, and are frequent readers of nearly all of them!)
- You're the Boss (NYTimes)
- LinkedIn Today
Definitely take a few minutes to click the link above for the details behind each of these terrific blogs.
We’re not trying to overwhelm or confuse you, honest! But we did find a third great list that we have to mention. The goal here is to not offer too many choices (Small business owners already have that challenge!) but to provide a manageable number of outstanding alternatives from which to choose. Everybody’s different. Maybe pick a half a dozen or even eight or 10 from these lists, bookmark them and let them lead your daily blog reading. But by all means, save all three lists, and if you can, add or substitute every now and then.
Back to the third list: Business Insider’s 20 blogs every entrepreneur should read. Interestingly, there’s been very little overlap among the lists, a testimonial to the wealth of fabulous blogs available to business owners. Take a look at this one, make your choices—and happy reading!
