There is a time and place for a company to toot its own horn. Especially when it speaks to the very underpinnings of the business, its mission and values, and how it works with and helps its customers.
And, I couldn’t be more excited that I now get to toot the BFS Capital horn, so to speak. I’m happy to be the one to talk about our CEO, Marc Glazer, and an important award for which he’s been named a finalist. Marc is currently a finalist in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year®2013 awards program, financial services category in the Florida market.
For those unfamiliar with this program, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year is billed as the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs. Now in its 27th year, the program recognizes the country’s leading entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
Ernst and Young says finalists were selected from nearly 80 nominations by a panel of independent judges. And their collective stats are impressive: Together, these finalists grew their employment by 18 percent and their revenues by nearly 36 percent between 2010 and 2012. Amazing!
We are thrilled that Marc is a finalist and although we admit to being biased, we can’t imagine anyone more qualified. To us, Marc is the ultimate entrepreneur and embodies the very characteristics Entrepreneur of the Year holds up: Excellence, innovation, financial performance, personal commitment to the business and the bigger community.
We see Marc as Superpreneur because he is actually a serial entrepreneur. BFS Capital is just the latest in a series of Marc’s successful independent ventures. And the BFS story alone is an incredible one. In little more than a decade (BFS was founded in 2002), he has transformed the company from an online business portal to a leading specialty finance company with more than 100 employees. We’re doing business in all 50 U.S. states and have recently expanded into Canada and the United Kingdom.
Leading BFS Capital through a decade of unbelievable growth has taken more than business acumen, although Marc possesses that in spades. It’s also taken Marc’s ability to not only have a vision but also to work steadily toward fulfilling it. Then there’s his flexibility and adaptability, his laser-like focus, his ability to inspire and lead and most of all, an unwavering commitment to BFS and especially to our customers.
Long before the recession and the credit crunch, Marc saw that small and medium-size businesses all needed one thing: working capital. Many struggled or had to forego an opportunity or a much-needed purchase because they just didn’t have access to the capital they needed. As an entrepreneur himself, he personally understood the drive and commitment of small business owners and the tremendous contribution they make to the country’s economy and the fabric of our communities.
So, he built BFS Capital on the belief that these businesses needed a chance and that access to working capital could give them that chance to survive and thrive. Not only that, he recognized that when businesses need capital, they need it fast. That’s why funding business loans in as few as two business days is at the heart of our value proposition.
What else can I say? We all learn from and are inspired every day by Marc as a small business champion and advocate. And in terms of the effect he and BFS have had on our small business customers, the proof is in the pudding, as they say: The majority of our customers return to BFS Capital for additional capital.
Although Marc Glazer is already Entrepreneur of the Year to us, we’ll be in Miami Beach on June 13, cheering him on as the winners are announced. We’ll let you know how it turns out!
