Last week was National Small Business Week. To paraphrase the words of President Obama, this was a chance to celebrate all the innovators and entrepreneurs across the country who have had a hand in the success of our nation’s millions of small businesses.
Yes, that’s right, MILLIONS of small businesses – 28 million small businesses to be more exact. The small business community is a huge driving force and contributor to the health of the U.S. economy. In fact, as you can see in the statistics below, small businesses represent 99.7 percent of all employer firms in the U.S.; they have generated 64 percent of net new jobs over the past 15 years; and they pay 44% of the total US payroll.
It was great to see the nation come together to recognize not only all the great things that small businesses contribute to our society, but to voice their concerns on how things can be done differently for the betterment of the future of small business.
Here are just a few of the highlights from last week:
Small businesses are truly the backbone of this country. Take some time to recognize your fellow small business owner, not just today, but all year long.
